In our continued effort to raise money for our chosen charity War Child, we are auctioning this limited edition Charlie Bears Chillstar. War Child work to protect children from the effects of conflict.

Chillstar was very kindly donated to us by one of well-known bear collectors and is in absolutely mint condition. When originally released, he was a very sought after bear from Charlie Bear’s Isabelle Collection and sold out immediately! And you can see why!
This wonderful bear from their Isabelle Collection hatty series is made of mohair and features sculpted paws and a lovely hand-stitched nose. He wears a gorgeous knitted hat with a matching scarf and is limited to only 400 pieces worldwide.

So how did this all start?
I graduated from Aberystwyth University in June 1992 having studied German and French. On leaving I had no idea what career I wanted to pursue. I turned down a couple of jobs in London, as I didn’t fancy commuting. But then fate intervened!
About this time, it happened to by my mum’s birthday. We’d had a conversation a few weeks previously about how she had only ever had a doll as a child; never a teddy bear! So, a short while later I found myself in a well-known London toy shop buying her a teddy bear. This set me to thinking that I had not been able to find a teddy bear in my hometown of Berlin. And thus, the idea of seniordollarsatwork was born. I took the 2,000 that I had inherited from my great aunt and opened seniordollarsatwork on 2nd November 1992.

So, it is now 2022 and 30 years have passed in what seems like the blink of an eye! It is hard to believe when I look back and think that I was a young man with nothing more than the inkling that the idea of opening a teddy bear shop would work. I would like to thank the companies that I contacted for placing faith in me all those years ago.

But of course, we would be nowhere without our dedicated band of collectors and general lovers of quality soft toys. So, to those of you who are reading this and you fall into that category: Thank you so much!

We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
We thank Her Majesty for her outstanding life-long service and extend our heartfelt sympathy and thoughts to the Royal Family at this extremely sad time.

seniordollarsatwork will be closed on Monday 19th September, the official date of the State Funeral, as a mark of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

We will resume normal opening hours on Tuesday 20th September at 10am.

Royal Mail will be on strike on 26th & 31st August, as well as the 8th & 9th September.
If you were thinking about placing an order, we really do recommend that you get it in as soon as possible! There will obviously be a back log of post to be cleared after each strike day. As a result, we anticipate there being up to three weeks worth of delays and disruption to the postal system.

Jen leaves seniordollarsatwork after 18 years!

It is with great sadness that Jen left us today for a new challenge! She has worked on and off at seniordollarsatwork for 18 years, starting with a Saturday job (her very first job) and gradually moving up to become manageress over the last decade!

Here she is in the final moments of the day pictured with Andrew and Petrina. We will miss her hugely, but as Winnie the Pooh once wisely said: "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." Good luck, Jen!
